How to Make the Best Hiring Decisions in a Challenging Recruitment Environment: Principles of employee selection including interviewing, background screening and social media

The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted nearly every facet of American life and business for the past several months. The labor market has seen drastic shake-ups as employers in some industries were required to lay off or furlough large portions of their workforce while others scrambled to hire thousands of new employees quickly enough to keep up with demand. Meanwhile, society is experiencing a renewed awareness of racial inequity, which has put a spotlight on workplace diversity and the ways in which bias impacts the hiring process.

This HR Workshop will train HR professionals in the art of thoughtfully and carefully navigating the interview and selection process in a way that helps them to achieve the goals of their organization while reducing turnover and liability risks.

Topics to be covered include:

  • A brief discussion of “Ban the Box” laws.
  • Conducting background checks and the use of social media when doing so.
  • Conducting effective interviews and avoiding legal pitfalls.
  • The impact of the Americans with Disabilities Act on the hiring process.
  • What about diversity initiatives and bias?
