A Primer on Effective Performance Management (including assessing performance of those who work remotely)

Most employers will find that the majority of their workforce is comprised of hardworking, qualified individuals who perform at a level that meets expectations. They do not rock the boat by engaging in problematic workplace conduct and are easy to communicate with and manage. The amount of time, energy and resources needed to navigate the challenges presented by managing the remainder of the workforce, however, is enough to make any employer’s head spin. To compound matters, those challenges are made even more daunting by the nearly overnight shift of an enormous segment of the U.S. population to remote work arrangements.

This workshop will include training on best practices for maximizing positive results by engaging in effective performance management. Topics to be discussed include:

  • Conducting regular performance reviews and clearly communicating both performance deficiencies and well-deserved positive feedback.
  • When and how to use performance improvement plans.
  • Investigating employee misconduct and documenting the investigation.
  • Effectively implementing employee discipline.
  • Addressing the challenges and embracing the opportunities presented by remote supervision.
